Gutter Cleaning & Clearing in Newcastle.

Gutters cleaned and cleared of moss, leaves and debris, with downpipes flushed through and tested. Quick, cheap, and the easiest thing you can do to avoid damp walls and much bigger repair bills later.

Gutter Cleaning & Clearing in Newcastle — Gosforth Roofing, Newcastle

Why it's worth doing every year

A blocked gutter doesn't fail quietly. It overflows down the wall, saturates the brickwork and rots the fascia behind it, and in a hard frost the trapped water expands and splits the joints. Everything that then needs fixing — pointing, fascia, internal damp — costs many times what clearing the gutter would have. Autumn, once the leaves are down, is the right time.

  • Water overflowing the front edge in normal rain
  • Plants or grass visibly growing out of the gutter
  • Staining or green growth on the wall below
  • Moss shed from the roof collecting at the outlets
  • A downpipe that stays dry while the gutter overflows
  • Damp on an internal wall below a gutter run

How we clear them

By hand from safe access, not blasted through from the ground. Debris comes out and goes in a bag rather than into the flowerbed or down the downpipe to block the drain instead. Then every downpipe is flushed and water-tested so we know the run actually clears to the gully. While we're up there we'll tell you about anything else we can see — a slipped slate, a cracked joint, a sagging bracket.

  1. Fixed price agreed before we come out
  2. Safe access set up
  3. Gutters cleared by hand, debris bagged and taken away
  4. Outlets and hoppers cleared
  5. Downpipes flushed through and water-tested to the drain
  6. Brackets and joints checked while we're at it
  7. You get told about anything else we've spotted, with photos

What it costs

A fixed price by property size — it's one of the cheapest jobs we do. If access needs scaffold rather than a tower, that changes the figure, and we'll tell you before booking rather than on the day.

What's included

Every gutter clean includes the following.

  • Fixed price agreed up front
  • Safe access — no working off an unsecured ladder
  • All gutter runs cleared by hand
  • Moss, leaves, silt and debris bagged and removed from site
  • Outlets and hoppers cleared
  • Every downpipe flushed and water-tested to the gully
  • Joints, brackets and falls checked
  • Photographs of anything that needs attention
  • Fully insured, public liability cover
  • No mess left behind

Worth knowing

  1. Best done annually, in autumn once the leaves are down
  2. Twice a year where trees overhang
  3. Gutter guards reduce, but don't remove, the need
  4. Roof moss treatment slows the debris at source

How often should gutters be cleared?

Once a year for most houses, in autumn after the leaves have come down. Twice a year if you've got trees overhanging the roof.

Do you clear from the ground or from the roof?

From safe access, by hand. Ground-based vacuum systems miss compacted silt and moss, and blasting debris through just moves the blockage into the downpipe or the drain.

Will you check the rest of the roof while you're up?

Yes, and we'll send you photographs of anything worth knowing about. No obligation to have us do the work.

What if the downpipe is blocked, not the gutter?

We flush and test every downpipe as part of the job. If one is blocked we clear it. If the blockage is in the underground drain rather than the pipe, we'll tell you — that's a drainage job, not a roofing one.

Is moss on my roof a problem?

In moderation, no. The issue is when it sheds and blocks the gutters and valleys. If it's heavy we'll say so and talk you through the options.
