Guttering & Downpipes in Newcastle.

New gutters, downpipes and hoppers supplied and fitted, plus repairs to leaking joints and sagging runs. Guttering is the cheapest part of your roof and the one most likely to be soaking your walls every time it rains.

Guttering & Downpipes in Newcastle — Gosforth Roofing, Newcastle

What failing guttering actually costs you

A leaking joint puts water down the same patch of wall every time it rains. Over a winter that saturates the brickwork, and saturated brickwork means damp on the inside wall, perished pointing and, at the eaves, rotten fascia and rafter ends. The guttering itself is one of the cheapest things on the house to put right. The damage it causes while you leave it is not.

  • Water running down the wall rather than into the downpipe
  • Green or black staining on the brickwork below a joint
  • A gutter run visibly sagging or holding standing water
  • Water overshooting the front edge in heavy rain
  • Plants growing out of the gutter
  • Damp patch on an internal wall that matches a gutter above

What we fit

Standard half-round and square uPVC in white, black or grey, deepflow for roofs that shed a lot of water, and cast-iron-effect aluminium for period properties where plastic looks wrong. On repairs we'll re-align and re-bracket a sound run rather than sell you a replacement you don't need. If the fascia behind it is soft, see fascias and soffits — there's no point hanging new gutter on rotten timber.

  1. Free survey — falls, brackets, fascia condition and outlet positions checked
  2. Fixed written quote
  3. Safe access set up
  4. Old guttering and downpipes removed
  5. Fascia checked — no new gutter goes onto rotten timber
  6. New brackets set to a correct continuous fall
  7. Gutter, outlets, hoppers and downpipes fitted
  8. Run water-tested to the drain, site cleared

What it costs

Priced by the metre run plus downpipes. It's one of the lower-cost jobs on this list, and doing it alongside fascia work or a re-roof saves you paying twice for access.

What's included

Every guttering job we quote includes the following.

  • Free survey and fixed written quote
  • Safe access — scaffold or tower as required
  • Removal and disposal of the old guttering
  • Fascia condition checked before anything is hung on it
  • New brackets set to a correct continuous fall
  • Gutter, union brackets, stop ends, outlets and angles
  • New downpipes, offsets, hoppers and shoes
  • Connection into the existing gully or drain
  • Run water-tested before we leave
  • All waste removed
  • Written workmanship guarantee

Often done at the same time

  1. New fascias, soffits and bargeboards
  2. Gutter guards where trees overhang
  3. Existing runs cleared and flushed
  4. Eaves slates or tiles renewed

Can you repair my gutter or does it need replacing?

Often a repair is enough — leaking joints, a dropped bracket or a run that's lost its fall can all be corrected. We'll tell you which yours needs. Replacement makes sense when the plastic has gone brittle or the fascia behind it is failing.

What's deepflow guttering?

A deeper profile that carries more water. Worth it on large roof areas, steep pitches, or anywhere your existing gutter overshoots in heavy rain.

Can you match cast iron?

Yes — aluminium and heavy-duty uPVC systems in a cast-iron profile look right on period properties and cost far less than real cast iron, with none of the rust.

How long does it take?

A standard semi-detached house is typically a day, once access is up.

Do you fit gutter guards?

Yes. Worth it if you have trees overhanging, though nothing is entirely maintenance-free — guards reduce clearing rather than eliminate it.
