Roofing built for
Kenton's housing stock.

Kenton grew quickly after it joined Newcastle in 1935. Kenton Lane and Kenton Road are lined with 1930s houses under hipped and gabled tiled roofs, and many have reached the age where the felt has perished, the battens are tired and the ridge mortar is breaking up. On these houses we often find a roof that can be saved with targeted repairs, and others where a re-roof is the better use of your money.

North Kenton and Kenton Bar are something else again. Both estates were designed by the architects Ryder and Yates in the 1960s with flat roofs, and the council's own heritage record notes that the original felt roofing did not last. Flat roofs like these need a sound deck, good falls and a modern covering, which is why we look at the timber underneath before we recommend felt, EPDM rubber or GRP fibreglass.

Kenton roofing questions.

How much does a new roof cost in Kenton?

Re-roofing a typical Kenton semi or terrace usually costs between £6,000 and £12,000. The size of the roof, the tiles you choose, any chimney work and scaffold access all affect the price, and bungalows and larger detached houses can sit outside that range. We give a fixed written price after a survey.

My North Kenton or Kenton Bar house has a flat roof. What are my options?

Built-up felt, EPDM rubber and GRP fibreglass are the three main choices. Each one can work well if the deck underneath is sound and the roof drains properly. We check the timbers and the falls first, then explain which covering suits your roof and what it will cost.

Can my roof be patched or does it need replacing?

Plenty of Kenton roofs only need a few tiles, a re-bedded ridge or new flashing. If the felt underneath has perished across the whole roof, or the battens are rotten, repeated patching stops making sense. We show you photos of what we find and tell you straight which option is better value.

How quickly can you get out for an emergency leak?

We aim to get out the same or next day for emergency leaks and make the roof watertight. After that we survey the roof properly and give you a written price for the lasting repair.

Do you cover Kingston Park, Fawdon and Blakelaw as well?

Yes. We work right across this side of Newcastle, including Kingston Park, Fawdon, Blakelaw, Cowgate and Kenton Bank Foot. The same free survey, fixed written price and workmanship guarantee apply wherever you are.
